Employability skills with Skills House

Last week, James and Scarlett from @skillshousebradford came to talk to our PI's (Pre-interns) about Employability Skills.

You might wonder what this has to do with baked beans!

They began by discussing what roles a company (such as Heinz) could offer someone, which interns may never have thought to consider.

For example, for Heinz to make and sell 2 billion tins of beans in the UK, they need:

- Farmers to grow and pick the beans.

- Drivers to transport them to the factory.

- Cooks.

- Mechanics to keep the machines in order.

- Canners.

- Labellers.

- Packers/ Loaders.

- Stock controllers.

- Supermarket staff.

- Many other roles in Admin, Quality checking, Marketing, and Manufacturing.

James and Scarlett then went on to discuss interview techniques and how to present yourself in a positive light to a potential employer.

The interns were empowered to think about their personal Skills, Strengths and Qualities that employers could look for when hiring.
