Pre-Internship Tutor Update

PCSO’s visit students with a van to discuss the role

During November and December, one of our guest speakers were two local Bradford PCSOs who came to give a fascinating talk about the role of a PCSO and answer questions from the students. The students had the chance to try on a police vest and feel like a real-life officer. They also had the opportunity to sit in the back of the police van! The role of a PCSO is exciting and varied and can include:

  • Being the first contact that people have with the police, providing a visible and reassuring presence and building relationships between the community and the Force.

  • Engaging with members of the public in a diplomatic, confident and supportive way.   Issuing fixed penalty notices.

  • Detaining a person until an officer arrives.

  • Gathering intelligence from the community.

  • Making people feel safe at large public gatherings such as sporting events and public demonstrations.

We are very grateful to the officers for giving up their time and thank them for the wonderful job that they are doing.

We recently had an opening evening for CTD which was a valuable opportunity to get a feel for our programme. Visitors had the chance to get advice about the programme, meet with tutors and students, take a tour and ask important questions. A big thanks goes to Dylan and Declan who talked with parents and organisations about their experience of the PI programme so far. They also helped set up the information stands which looked fantastic!

Our learners also took part in a workshop delivered by Matt Elliot (Children and Young People’s Participation Lead) from People’s Voice. The aim of the workshop was to give young people with SEND the opportunity to have their voices heard and to be involved in the co-production of services that support them across the area.
